Sofia Llanes (b. 1998, Denver, CO), lives and works in Queens, NY. As a painter and printmaker, Llanes' work is in conversation with themes of aging, guilt, fear, and love. Though she primarily works in gouache and acrylic paint, she often incorporates non-traditional materials in her practice, experimenting with expanding foam, glass, clay, and jewels. Her usage of various materials acts as a conduit for her understanding of the boundaries between restraint and liberty, permanency and transience.

Llanes holds a BFA in Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her work has been included in exhibitions at The Arsenal Gallery in partnership with the NYC Parks Department, New York (Las Flores de mi País); FIT Fine Arts Showcase(s), New York; and Arts Avenue, New York.
